Toxoplasmosis is an infectious disease caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, an obligate intracellular parasite of worldwide distribution. It affects mammals and birds, however, only felids are definitive hosts of the protozoan. This article sought to clarify the main doubts, means of transmission, and demystify the role of the cat in the disease.
